HST technology integrates real-time process data with the corresponding technology to enable efficient decision-making and control processes, ensuring safe and economically sound operations. HST’s key products are applied in central and special structures in the water management sector, such as stormwater tanks, wastewater treatment plants, flood pumping stations, sewer networks, water supply and treatment facilities, dams, and retention basins for flood protection. They are also used in municipal operations and organizations, as well as in other technical infrastructure facilities like locks. The products are systematically developed in modules, ensuring system openness through the use of standards.

Nearly 350 employees from the fields of computer science, mechanical engineering, and engineering work for the owner-managed HST Group, creating interdisciplinary complete solutions and networked systems in all products and services. The company’s headquarters, which includes the development and production of machinery & equipment and IT & automation, is located in Meschede. The Water Supply Competence Center is situated in Hahnstätten, Rhineland-Palatinate, the Flow – Discharge – Overflow Competence Center in Schliengen, Baden-Württemberg, and the Energy Center in Duisburg. Nationwide, technical offices provide on-site customer consultation, while international partners and branches support clients worldwide in the planning and execution of digitalization projects in the water management sector.

Machinery & Equipment - The Big Five

Performance that runs smoothly

ASA-Weirs, also known as reinforced concrete lifting weirs, primarily serve as cascade damming, flushing, and relief weirs. These weirs activate storage volumes, create surge and drawdown effects for sewer cleaning, and provide a variable overflow edge at separation structures and reliefs. Technically, ASA weirs are hydraulically driven, pressure-tight gates crafted with the highest precision in XXL format.

The advanced solution for coarse and fine material retention at stormwater overflow structures, the HSR High-Performance Screen is a horizontal bar screen equipped with an automatic cleaning device. It is regularly implemented as an effective measure for active water protection at overflows and relief structures in combined sewer systems and at the inlet of ground filters.

The energy-independent and low-operational-cost solution for surge cleaning of stormwater tanks. After a rain and impoundment event, significant pollution and deposits remain on the bottom of stormwater tanks. With AWS flushing buckets mounted outside the medium (rainwater, wastewater, etc.), these deposits can be removed effectively and without external energy through a flushing surge. Preferably and environmentally friendly, wastewater is used as the flushing medium.

The Alligator is a pneumatically controlled flow regulator with an integrated flow measurement function, utilizing an exact full-bore MID (Magnetic Inductive Flowmeter) for flow detection. This cleverly designed system is deployed wherever liquid media need to be measured and regulated. It is particularly suitable for hydraulic challenges and confined spaces where high accuracy is required.

The EMA (Electronic Quantity Evaluation) system offers an optimal solution for the accurate recording, determination, and evaluation of overflow quantities, which are relieved via fixed weir thresholds. The EMA system consists of the following components:

EMA Panel: Variable mechanical construction with E-scale optics for the accommodation, protection, and precise adjustment of the sensors.

EMA Sensors: High-precision continuous data acquisition with an additional fixed height point for calibration.

EMA Controller: High-resolution acquisition and archiving of measurement data using the delta event method with verification and calibration functions.

EMA Evaluation: User-friendly data evaluation with a graphical analysis tool and logging based on Microsoft Excel.

EMA DiBo: Fixed height point (reference signal) for calibration and plausibility check of the EMA sensors.

EMA Measuring Profile: Structured measuring profile to compensate for structural height differences and improve accuracy.

This applies to current precipitation as well as past and future events. Enhanced features of our precipitation portal, NiRA.web, now offer added value and greater reliability, thanks to a comprehensive and proprietary data base. Instead of a flood of Big Data, NiRA.web delivers genuine Smart Data results.

IntelliNet is a comprehensive system comprised of individual, autonomous systems and intelligent objects within the water and wastewater management sector. Local, autonomously controlled systems such as detention basins, stormwater retention tanks, pumping stations, and treatment plants are complemented by spatially and logically superior control procedures.

The fundamental components of an IntelliNet system include sensor technology, actuator technology, automation, and communication technology.

IntelliNet applications are diverse and goal-oriented. These include, for example, storage basin or tank management and pump station synchronization.

Through a consistent industry focus and continuous innovative development, HST’s SCADA systems are unique. The intensive dialogue between our development team, construction engineers, process engineers, and operators ensures our SCADA systems are highly practical. The archiving method Delta-Event, introduced with HydroDat V5.3, has become an influential industry standard.

Automation technology, software, and IT communication have formed the foundation of modern equipment systems in municipal infrastructures for many years. Initially, these systems were purely mechanical, mostly made of steel.
